Triston Slater, vaulting for the Capital City Striders, won the boys ages 15-16 pole vault championship at the AAU Junior Olympics Thursday in Detroit.

Foxx jumped a 6-4 at the AAU Junior Olympic Games in Ypsilanti, Mich., and finished in second place among the 15-16 year olds in Thursday’s high jump event.

Ciara threw the shot put 22 feet, 10 ¾ inches to win the championship for her age group at the AAU Junior Olympic track and field games Monday at Eastern Michigan University.

Northgate senior Kemor Anderson’s hopes to bring home at least two medals this week at the AAU Junior Olympics at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti stayed right on pace on Tuesday. The 17-year-old, who is appearing at the national meet for the fifth consecutive summer, moved into the semifinals in both the 100 and 200 meters during this week’s early preliminaries.

 

April Sutton, who attends Roosevelt High School in Eastvale, won two medals at the 2013 Junior Olympics in Greensboro, N.C. in July. She won silver in the heptathlon and bronze in the 400 hurdles. In the 100 hurdles, Sutton placed fourth overall but had the best time for California girls 15 and 16 years of age.

Wave after wave of young athletes sprinted around the curve and down the stretch in the 200-meter dash Tuesday at Olds-Marshall Track on the Eastern Michigan University campus until the last heat finally made it through

Rantoul’s Charles Cargo excelled during the AAU Junior Olympics this weekend at Eastern Michigan University by finishing eighth in the decathlon. Cargo, an incoming senior at Rantoul Township High School, finished with 5,353 points, a 1,035-point improvement from last year. He came in eighth out of 27 decathletes.

Thirty-four members of the Southeast Louisiana Roadrunners Summer Track team, including 14 Covington-based throwers, trekked to ESPN's Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Fla., to compete July 8-14 in the AAU Club Championships.

Local youth track athletes with the Southeast Striders Track and Field Club placed at the AAU national qualifier in the Georgia versus South Carolina Track and Field Championships held at Lovejoy High School June 20-23.
