We met Cameron on Instagram and asked her to tell us about her sprinting and her goals for the track season.

My name is Cameron Thompson, aka @curls_and_spikes on Instagram. I am from Richmond, Virginia. This is my 4th year running track. The last 3 years I have been coached by Barney Cobb, an LSU track alumnus, and a former Olympic qualifier.

I run the 100m, 200m, and sometimes the 400m dash. In 2016 and 2017, I earned 1st place in the 100m at the AAU Region 5 National Qualifier as a 10 year old and 11 year old girl, respectively. I look forward to defending my title this year as a 12 year old!

In July 2017, I traveled to Florida to compete in the AAU Club Championship meet. I received 2nd place in the 100m (13.03s), and 5th in the 200m (26.57s).

In March 2018, I competed in the AAU Indoor Championship meet. I received 2nd in the 60m (8.35s), and 4th in the 200m (27.88s). The best part is that I was also a member of a 4x200m relay team that broke the meet record with a time of 1:50.37.

I love being a sprinter. I hope to earn a spot to compete in the 2024 Summer Olympics. I also love science and I want to be an engineer when I grow up.
